Numbers and operations
Arithmetic provides the basic operations used to work with numbers: addition, subtraction, multiplication and division. Fractions, decimals, percentages, ratios and negative numbers extend those ideas and appear frequently in everyday calculations.
Patterns and algebra
Algebra gives us a way to represent unknown quantities and relationships using symbols. Patterns can be described with expressions and equations, allowing a rule to be applied to many different values rather than calculating each case separately.
Shape, space and measurement
Geometry studies shapes, sizes, angles and relationships in space. Measurement connects these ideas to real quantities such as length, area, volume and time. Formulas are useful because they provide repeatable methods for solving problems with known relationships.
Mathematics as problem solving
Good mathematical problem solving is not only about remembering formulas. It involves identifying what is known, deciding what information matters, choosing a method and checking whether the result makes sense. Quiz questions can help practise both recall and reasoning.
